The bathroom was awful, with a plastic curtain, no soap at all, and nowhere to plug in a razor. The room wasn't much better: dim lighting, battered doors, no bedside tables, and a mattress and pillow that made the bed feel like a museum piece. There’s nowhere to park at the place, so you have to hunt for a spot in the town’s narrow streets. A strange smell hit me when I walked in. Honestly, terrible. I wouldn’t recommend it.

A lovely little town for exploring the area, then coming back to sleep. The house felt welcoming and clean, and the family were attentive and really friendly.

The owner is a charming guy, though his garlic breath will knock you out by 10 in the morning. The place is clearly run-down, and while it's cheap, don't expect comforts: no wifi, very dated furnishings, and a cramped bathroom. It's in a tiny village, which feels pretty odd too. I really can't rate it highly.

We were able to choose our room, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. Our host was so kind and lovely. She only speaks Portuguese, so communication was a bit difficult, but we still had a fun, pleasant time. There’s no wifi or TV, but in Barao de Sao Joao you can just unplug and enjoy the Algarve. We liked it.

The room was comfortable, and the balcony was a nice spot to enjoy the village's quiet. Casa do João had a small market beside it one Wednesday, where we found a delicious sweet cake. There are also mini-markets and several places for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can park in any free space around the village, and dogs are accepted without an extra fee, which not many places allow. Mrs. Virginia is a delight, very attentive, and her son and grandson helped whenever they could. It's a welcoming home for a few days if you'd rather disconnect and enjoy simple things than have luxuries.
