I can't get over the lovely flowers in this little park. Campo das Hortas is right in front of Arco da Porta Nova in Braga, and entry is free. It's open around the clock. There are benches, a fountain in the middle, and bins at the corners, and the garden is quite clean. Free Wi-Fi from Visit Portugal is easy to connect to and has pretty good speed. There are restaurants and cafés around the park if you want to stop for a break or a meal. There's also a toilet behind the park's quiosque, though I didn't use it, so I can't comment on how clean or accessible it is.

Campo das Hortas has had the names “Hortas da Cidade” and “Hortas de Maximinos” in the past. It is now a charming square with shops and other businesses, set just in front of Arco da Porta. In the Middle Ages, Rua Nova de Sousa began at that gateway. The square also gives you a lovely view of the surrounding area. Ig: @oursceneos

A tiny park, absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

We visited in the first half of April 2025, and this garden square, Campo das Hortas, was where our city tour began and ended. At the entrance to Braga's historic center, it feels like a hidden gem, with well-kept paths, colorful flower beds, shady trees, and neat lawns. A picturesque spot for photos.

The fountain sits in the middle of Campo das Hortas, a really lovely spot just a short distance from Porta Nova.
