The Words Apartment in the Heart of Cascais

We could walk to the beach and square from this apartment in the center of Cascais, and the location was amazing. Joao welcomed us in person, helped with parking and luggage, and had basics ready, along with wine, water, fruit, coffee and tea. He kept in touch throughout to make sure we had what we needed and were comfortable. The host was very accommodating about our arrival and let us come early after our overnight flight and drive from Lisbon. I’d recommend staying here and would definitely return.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the landlord and staff were warm and friendly. They responded quickly whenever we needed something. This was the best apartment I’ve stayed in on this trip, and we’ll come back next time!

We booked Sun apartment for five nights but left after just one. There were several problems. The apartment smelled of bug spray, and my son had breathing irritation. One bathroom had a sewer smell that made it unusable, and the gas in the kitchen wouldn’t light properly. The two bedrooms had curtains that didn’t block the strong streetlight, and poor insulation meant we could smell exhaust and hear every passing car, which made sleeping difficult. The corridors were dark to save electricity, with the lights supposed to come on when they sensed movement. They took time to activate, leaving us blinded in an unfamiliar space. The garage opens onto the lobby, and petrol smells filled the corridors. The parking space was also very narrow and difficult to get into, especially to get out of. After seeing the issues, the owner didn’t deny them. We said we were leaving and asked for the unused nights to be refunded; he told us to request it through Booking. But after we did, the owner rejected everything we’d said, and we received no refund for the nights we didn’t use. That left me questioning the owner’s reliability. The owner only speaks Chinese, and his young daughter translates. The representative speaks English but couldn’t help, which made things very difficult. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The large balcony gives a panoramic view of the streets of Cascais, and my family and I had a perfect trip. The apartment is in Cascais’s historic old town, with the station and famous Praia da Ribeira beach just a three-minute walk away. Supermarkets, restaurants and bars are nearby for daily needs. There are three suites, and the decor is elegant and chic. The place was clean and tidy, and we’ll be back soon.
