The hosts were very friendly and accommodating, which made the stay worthwhile. It's a traditional Portuguese bed and breakfast in a peaceful, tranquil setting, lovely for a short visit if you like that kind of calm. It's not especially luxurious, and not everything is pristine, so don't expect that.

Beautiful and cozy, with a comfortable feel. It's isolated and rustic.

We only stayed one night, and with other places to reach on our trip, we were sorry not to have more time. I'd have liked to bring more food, walk some of the forest trails, and spend longer enjoying the peace there. Gustavo was a lovely host at breakfast. He served homemade bread, jams, and preserves, and seemed to take care to use fresh, local ingredients. There's no taverna in the village, but Gustavo has a shared space beside his wood-fired bread oven where guests can make a fire and cook outdoors. We had a kitchen in our unit, but hadn't stopped to buy supper supplies. Luckily, we had wine and snacks to tide us over until breakfast. Bring food with you. The unit was surprisingly comfortable inside, with everything we needed, thoughtfully done to suit its surroundings. We called ahead and were shown in soon after. Xisto also has an unexpected swimming pool, which was hard to imagine when we first arrived. The village is secluded and feels like a step back in time, a real rural experience. The hilly, scenic drive to Martim Branco really feels off the beaten track. It's a hidden gem in the forests near Castell Branco, with walks around the accommodation and a river running through the bottom of the village.

A lovely nature stay, peaceful, traditional, clean, and well maintained. The owners were very friendly, the staff helpful, and breakfast was good. Wonderful experience, and they're pet friendly too! 😊 🐕
