The apartment is spacious, comfortable, and clean, right on the main pedestrian street and where another pedestrian street heads up to the university. It made it easy to explore in any direction. Our host was quick to respond when the hairdryer stopped working within ten minutes of turning it on, and a replacement arrived a couple of hours later. Bragaparque garage is about a five-minute walk away. It doesn't take foreign credit cards, so bring cash, though there's a staffed office on site.

Being right in the center of Coimbra was lovely. Orpheus is a clean, charming studio about the size of a one-bedroom, near the entrance to the old castle and university. Restaurants are just seconds away, and Fado singers perform on the promenade right outside the windows. It works beautifully for two, and can fit four with the pull-out couch.

The room is spacious and nicely decorated, and the location is great, just under the Almedina Arch by the Fado Center and Coimbra U, with lots of attractions nearby. The main street runs right below the window. But the bathroom smelled very musty and unpleasant. There were very few towels and no towel rack, the shower shelf was broken, and no body soap was provided, so I had to buy some. Fix those issues and it'd be an easy recommendation for the location alone.

It's hard to beat this city-centre location, and the studio has been recently redone with nice Portuguese-themed decor. It's a beautiful place for a couple. There's a microwave and fridge, but no stove.

For exploring Coimbra's old town, this is a perfect base. Just plan ahead if you're driving, since parking nearby isn't really an option.
