Residencia Lusa Atenas

I came in off the street without a booking, traveling solo, and they had a beautiful room ready for me at a good price. The staff were good, too. They treated me really well, let me check out late, and printed my bus ticket.

It’s fine if you’re on a low budget. The room was tiny but clean and quiet, even though it’s next to a fire station. There are cafes nearby, and Coimbra old town is a 7 minute walk away. The cleaning ladies were very helpful, but the receptionist wasn’t, and didn’t even know how to get to station Coimbra 2. Nobody speaks English. And to answer another reviewer, they do HAVE a lift!

The decor is terrible, and everything feels really old. The price is cheap in every sense. Getting to the rooms means climbing a long flight of stairs, so it’s a bad choice if you have heavy luggage. It’s noisy at night, with people coming and going at all hours, and the hotel staff don’t seem to care. I had to tell the noisy people to quiet down myself.

The building is very old, and the toilet was dirty; the bedsheets weren’t clean either. The hotel itself is large, with lots of rooms, and it’s close to the city center. The staff are nice.
