Casal Santa Virginia

It’s upsetting to write this after what was otherwise a lovely stay, but I can’t stay quiet about what happened afterward. I booked and paid for two nights at Casal Santa Virginia through Expedia in April 2025. When I arrived in early July, the hotel manager charged my card for those same two nights again. I reported the duplicate charge while I was still there and staff said they’d sort it out promptly. It’s now mid August, and I’ve spent hours over several weeks contacting both Expedia and the hotel to get the charge corrected. Yesterday Expedia told me that Casal Santa Virginia had ignored multiple attempts to reach them and that “the charges are final”. I’m extremely upset that this wasn’t resolved in 50+ days, and now I have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. This should never have happened, and I’m starting to feel it may have been intentional. Absolute fraud.

Alex Drake made this stay unforgettable for my family and me. His thoughtful attention made us feel at home, and after 17 days traveling from Lisboa to Oporto and staying in 7 hotels, the service at other places felt pale by comparison. The property itself was wonderful, with beautiful Mediterranean views from the bedroom in the morning and service from everyone that was on another level. I’d recommend this gorgeous place for its beauty. Make sure your room faces the ocean, it’s sublime. And if you’re lucky enough to have Alex as your host, expect a different kind of client service. 5 stars ALL THE WAY!!!

The ocean view from breakfast was lovely, and breakfast itself was decent. We stayed in the uppermost room, which might feel a bit small for larger people. It’s a cozy tiny hotel in a nice spot near the ocean. Portugal was new to us, and this stay delivered. We didn’t use the swimming pool.

We had a wonderful time, with breathtaking ocean views and a beautiful location. The service was so nice, and the staff offered to take care of everything. Thanks!!
