We had a great time over 4 days in mid September. The room was quiet, and breakfast was simple, with as much coffee as you like. Alvaro, the friendly owner and host, gave us all the information we needed. Castro beach house is a great base for visiting Sintra’s old buildings, walking to the beach, or hiking the coastal tracks with their scenic views. Sintra is approx 20-25 min away by car. It’s best to park in the village and see the highlights by bus or tuk tuk, as the parking lots by the tourist spots fill up. Nearby beaches sit among rocky hills, are beautiful and not crowded, and have pretty good fish restaurants. Hiking tracks can mostly be found up the hills on both sides of the beach.

We felt very welcome, and the orange juice at breakfast each morning was super tasty. Everything else was perfect too. The only small minus was the view from the window.

We had a lovely stay, with the garden view making the room feel especially peaceful. The staff were wonderful, and the place was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was great too. It’s close to Praia das Maças and well placed for the beach and Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, whether you drive or use one of the bicycles provided. Thanks for everything. We’ll be back!
