The mountain views were breathtaking, and Cortes do Meio felt like a little paradise. People in the village were warm and keen to talk with us even though we don’t speak Portuguese. Casa do Adro was quiet, spotless, and had everything we needed. The beds, pillows, mattress, and blankets were all comfortable, and we slept soundly each night. The church bells start at 9 AM, which felt like a lovely way to wake up for the mountain morning. Mr Paulo was so kind throughout our stay. He kept in touch, brought us a fresh loaf when we couldn’t get one ourselves, and even picked us up from Covilha train station. We loved our time there and would recommend it to anyone wanting to see mountain Portugal and the hospitality of Serra da Estrela.

We had everything we needed for a few peaceful days in this clean, welcoming house. The bedrooms were a comfortable size, with air conditioning and private bathrooms, and the large kitchen had the essentials. Just be aware there are stairs both on the way in and inside the house, though that wasn’t a problem for us. The host was very friendly, kept in touch, and shared plenty of information to help us explore the area.

There’s lots to explore and visit in the surrounding area, and this place makes a great base. The house is spacious, welcoming, and well equipped, in a peaceful little village with a traditional feel. Our host was thoughtful and helpful. It would work well for two couples sharing, or a couple with children.

The church bell ringing in the morning adds to the feeling of being in a traditional, peaceful village. One bedroom has a lovely view of the mountains, and there’s enough room for everyone, including a fireplace in the kitchen. A really nice place to spend some time and unwind.
