Herdade da Rocha Boutique Lodge

A great little art boutique hotel, just right for a quiet break away from the big city. Thanks especially to the manager, who showed us around the vineyard and arranged a wine tasting. The food was delicious, and the staff were more than friendly. Thank you!

Herdade da Rocha has wonderful grounds, with vines, cork trees, oaks, boulders, and deer. The clean, bright rooms are simple, and the pavilions around the pool look lovely, with a Palm Springs feel. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and breakfast, and the wine was just what you’d expect from Alentejo. Highly recommended.

The place looks stylish and luxurious, and my first impression was good, but the stay turned into a really bad experience. The manager came across as hostile and impolite rather than welcoming. The staff seemed slow and unmotivated, and didn’t greet us. Breakfast was a joke, and staying longer than one night really hurts. I travel a lot and have stayed in all sorts of hotels and guesthouses, and this was one of my worst experiences so far. The service was poor and scarce for the luxury impression the hotel or lodge gives. We went to the nearby hotel and restaurant called Pousada for dinner, and the food and service there were truly excellent. A much better place to be.

They even arranged a barbecue for us at the hotel, and Sandra and her team kept an eye on everything we needed. The setting is lovely and the wines are great, too. Impeccable service. I’d happily recommend both the hotel and this beautiful region.
