Tulip Inn Estarreja Hotel & Spa

Our group of 20 stayed here for one night on August 30. We were initially glad to see the 4-star rating, but the facilities looked outdated and as though they hadn’t been maintained for years. The carpets were dirty too. At 3:30 a.m. I woke up covered in bedbug bites. I had five large swellings on my arms and around ten bites on my face, and half my face and my eyes were completely swollen. When I pulled back the blanket, I found more than a dozen bedbugs in different sizes. Two others in our group also said insects had bitten them overnight. I went straight to reception to complain. They said the owner was on vacation and we’d have to wait until he returned. We never got a response. I’ve traveled to more than 20 countries and never had anything like this happen. Everyone in our group agrees the hotel is appalling and nowhere near worthy of a 4-star rating. I strongly warn others not to book here to avoid the same nightmare. A hotel this terrible should be shut down.

The location wasn’t good, a bit off the road from everything. The really worrying part was that one of our team members had to deal with bedbugs, which made the whole group uncomfortable staying there. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this needs to change so they can serve clients better. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Bedbugs were disgusting and ruined what had been a wonderful trip. My friend was in the room next to mine, and half her face was red and swollen. The hotel still hasn’t responded to her about how they’ll resolve it. I’ll never go back.

I stayed four nights and won’t return. The place feels very dated, like the 1980s. The bed was hard, the pillows soggy, the sink plug wouldn’t seal and got stuck, and the air conditioning wouldn’t cool the room. Dogs barking outside kept me awake. Breakfast was cold every morning. I arrived at the restaurant at exactly 07:00 each day and watched them light candles under the metal trays of bacon and eggs. When I asked for hot food, they told me to wait for the candles to heat it up. I told the receptionist twice, but nothing changed. That’s why I’m leaving this sad review.
