The pool was amazing, and the private houses felt spacious and spotless, each with a terrace surrounded by lovely nature. Atrio was easily my favourite stop during my week in Madeira, when I stayed at a different hotel each night. The food was excellent, and the staff did so much to make our stay special. For my boyfriend’s birthday, they helped arrange a surprise cake and set up a special table. After checkout, they stored all our luggage, including what felt like a hundred little bags, so we could hike without worrying about it. They even packed the leftover cake and made sandwiches for the hike. It was an unforgettable stay. I’m already planning to return and can’t recommend Atrio highly enough.

At around 500 metres above sea level, this hotel is a great base for outdoor activities, especially hiking. The friendly staff are helpful with tips, guides, and some equipment. Breakfast is good, with a buffet as well as eggs and pancakes cooked to order. Dinner is available too, though some choices weren’t always on offer. I’d recommend it. It’s a good hotel at the upper end of four stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟.

The lodges are beautiful, with a stunning sea view, and the restaurant serves top quality food. We had a fabulous week here. It’s extremely peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for. To get into Calheta, you’ll need a taxi or, ideally, a hire car.

The restaurant menu is delicious, and I’d recommend having dinner here. It’s quite remote, but after a day of hiking we didn’t feel a need to go elsewhere. The hotel has a lovely view, good facilities, spacious rooms, and great service.

Our first-floor room and its little balcony were lovely, and the food was excellent. We spent two nights at Atrio in May and found it a beautiful place, with great, very helpful service. I’d love to return with a car so I can explore more, though getting around by taxi is doable too. Thanks, Atrio!
