Breakfast had plenty of fresh local options, and the whole property felt peaceful, a lovely place to unwind. The staff were so friendly and helpful, always doing a little extra to make our stay special. Pousada Castello is full of charm and history, with beautiful views over the town and countryside. Our room was spotless and comfortable, decorated with a nice mix of traditional style and modern comforts. We’d absolutely stay again and recommend it to anyone wanting a memorable, authentic experience in Portugal.

We stopped here for one night in early October 2025, about halfway on our drive from Douro to Algarve. The hotel sits prettily on a hill above town, and our room was lovely. The restaurant and bar were great, breakfast was excellent, and it’s a good base for exploring the region. The staff were the best part, so friendly and helpful. A special treat, you should go!

For 2 euros, you can see the former palace and its original designer furniture. The climb up the tower takes effort, but it’s a must, and the view from the top is breathtaking.
