The place was filthy and in poor condition, and I would never book it again. We reserved a “Superior DOUBLE or twin room with City View.” Calling it “Superior” suggested a standard well above what we found. The room was cramped, like a dirty prison cell, with only two bare beds and nowhere to sit or put our bags and clothes. There was no table, chair, chest, or wardrobe. The so-called city-view window was just a narrow opening in the outer wall, about 23 cm high, not a proper window. Although the listing said “double room,” there was no double bed, only two simple, uncomfortable beds, more like berths. I had specifically messaged the owner when booking to ask for a double room. On arrival, the owner told me by phone through the receptionist that the hostel had no double beds. When I called to ask to cancel because the room didn’t match the online description, the owner was extremely rude and refused. The room smelled strongly of toilets, apparently coming from the toilet itself, and the lobby stank when we entered. It was very dirty, as if it hadn’t been properly cleaned in months or years. The bathroom was filthy and covered in fungus, with a broken shower-cabin door and no soap or bath gel. There was no ventilation, no window, and no fan, so the only way to air out the toilet was through the bedroom, along with the smell and humidity. The floor was dirty too. There was no working Wi-Fi in the second-floor rooms, only in reception. The room for two had just one socket for charging a phone or tablet, unless you unplugged the lamp or fan. The beds were shaky, cheap wooden structures. Furnishings and tiles seemed to be coming off the walls, held on with blue plastic adhesive tape. The whole place felt like a garbage dump, with broken, filthy, old items. The hostel is on the outskirts of Evora’s old area, although the town is small enough that most locations are good. There’s a very loud bar right next to it that can keep you awake. Despite what the owner claims, there is no bar in the hostel.

We were able to park our motorcycles right in front of the hotel. The design is varied and interesting, and the facilities are a bit tired but thoughtfully arranged. Our twin room had no AC. It’s well located for places of interest, though the cobbled street beside the hostel gets quite busy and noisy. The music bar downstairs was closed, and it looked like renovation work was happening.

There’s usually live music at the bar right next door, and I loved the jazz they played. They kindly offer earplugs for people who are sensitive to nighttime noise, though I was on the top floor and didn’t need them. The hostel is in a great location and good value. Free parking is available outside Evora’s wall, about a five-minute walk away.

The bar music on the ground floor carried on until 4h. We were on the top floor and had to keep the window shut to avoid being kept awake. Otherwise it was a decent enough place, with one shared bathroom for everyone.

My room had a heater, something I hadn’t seen at the other hostels I stayed in. The hostel is well equipped, and you can park for free fairly close by. Its location is great for exploring the old town.
