About this property
Noble House Essence Évora, whose origins date back to the 15th century, is a genuine example of a noble Alentejo manor house. Its foundations rest upon the “Cerca Velha”, the city’s first wall, and its history is both rich and diverse. Originally, it was the Manor House of the Counts of Lousã, later serving as a school, and since the 1920s it has operated as a hotel, making it the oldest hotel unit in the city.
In its transformation into the present-day Noble House Essence Évora, the property underwent a renovation led by Architect Fernando Coelho, recipient of several international awards, including the Gold Award in Architectural Design / Hospitality at the 2016 American Architecture Prize.
Located in the historic heart of Évora, just a 2-minute walk from the Évora Cathedral and the Roman Temple of Évora, Noble House Essence Évora is a fantastic starting point from which to discover Évora — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and the wider Alentejo region.

Filipe Coelho made the stay easy from before I arrived. He confirmed my arrival time by email, had the room ready for early check-in, showed me around, and gave me a larger space with more amenities than I had asked for. At the end, he kept my bag and arranged a taxi to the bus station. When the first service didn't show, he stepped away from his lunch break to call another company and make sure a car arrived. I had privacy and comfort throughout. The breakfast looked wonderful, though I chose to eat out and tried several of the cafes Filipe recommended. Noble House is quaint and convenient, inside the walls but far enough from the busy tourist square. I had a solo weekend respite and would recommend it for the location, value, and service. I'll come back.

The staff were all so friendly and helpful, and the hotel breakfast was exceptional. Staying in this enchanting historic hotel, so close to the Roman Temple and cathedral, felt magical. It made our first trip to Portugal even more memorable. Thank you, Noble House.

We especially enjoyed wandering the winding, narrow cobblestone streets and exploring the small shops and restaurants nearby. Noble House sits inside the walls of historic Evora, and the Roman ruins, Chapel of Bones, and many other sights are only a short walk away. The staff were gracious and helpful, and our room was comfortable and immaculately clean. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty.

This was our second stay at Noble House Essence Évora Hotel, and it was just as lovely as the first, when we visited last April for our anniversary. Felipe greeted us and looked after us right through checkout, making us feel valued. The location is hard to beat, and the breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety. We hope to visit a third time.

A sweet little hotel that really went out of its way to make our visit memorable. The front desk was super helpful, and we loved the kitchenette. Fresh bread delivered to the door each morning was superb, along with a good range of healthy breakfast choices: fresh oranges for juice, lovely jams, eggs, and really good muesli.
