Jose welcomed us into this B&B with so much kindness and helpfulness. We chose it instead of somewhere nearer the airport, about 20-30 minutes away, and Casa de Estoi felt like just our kind of place. It’s old but very well looked after. Since it was Sunday, there weren’t many restaurants open, unfortunately. I’d come back if I get the chance.

We loved our stay at this beautiful historic hotel in a lovely area near Faro. The staff were professional and breakfast was great. Portugal has a lot of motorbikes, so light sleepers might want earplugs.

Katarina welcomed us and showed us around the old home. She’s lively, energetic, and full of information, and made me feel like part of her family. The hotel is clean and comfortable, with a nice pool and a great breakfast. It’s across from Estoi’s main square and church, handy for the Estoi Palace, the Roman Ruins less than half a mile away, and a small cafe across the street.

Estoi is a peaceful village with a Mediterranean feel, a few nice bars and restaurants, and not much nightlife or activity. It really is off the beaten track, which makes it a lovely place to relax. We didn’t rent a car, and an Uber to Faro cost about €15. There’s a bus too, but it doesn’t run often. In Faro, the train station, main bus terminal, and harbour are close together, with connections to many coastal places. The hotel itself is a charming, well-run conversion of an old mansion, keeping much of its original style while adding modern comforts. It’s well kept, with a small backyard pool and a bar in the basement. The manager was attentive and gave useful local advice. Breakfast was good, with plenty of fresh fruit.
