Golden Beach Guesthouse

The receptionist was really helpful and gave us good suggestions for places to visit and eat. The location is great too. I highly recommend staying here, and I’ll definitely come back.

The rooftop bar was a highlight, with lovely beach views and a great spot for sunset. Cocktails were fantastic, though the food was just okay. The hotel is right by the beach and well placed for bars and restaurants, and the staff are friendly. Our room was spacious, but the sink had a huge crack and the mattress sagged in the middle, so it needs some upkeep. Parking around here is busy, like it is at the other hotels nearby.

The staff were consistently friendly and dealt with our concerns quickly. Once a cockroach turned up in the room, they cleaned again and used extra insect repellent. They explained that cockroaches are common in the region’s climate, though we didn’t encounter any during our stays at other Algarve hotels. Earlier, breakfast had seemed fine until we noticed the yogurt was a week past its expiration date. The team apologized and checked everything after we mentioned it. Our first impression was poor: the room had visible wear, black marks on the walls, basic furniture, and cleanliness problems. After we raised this, it was cleaned again. We were told the price was mostly for the location, not the room’s comfort. The rest of the stay went smoothly after the problems were addressed.

We gave the bar another try for drinks on a separate day, expecting faster service. In an almost empty room, we were asked to wait at our table instead of ordering at the bar. It took about 20 minutes before anyone took our order, then at least half an hour for the drinks to arrive. The prices are steep, and the service is poor. The bar staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Dinner after a beach day was just as frustrating: it took around 1.5 hours for the food to come. Much of it was cold, the chicken burger was awful, and one person in our group waited another 30 minutes for his meal. Avoid it. You’d be better off having a beer with the homeless guys down the street.
