Luxury Guest House Opus One

We were comfortable enough to sleep well, and having a balcony was nice. It worked as somewhere to come back to after a day out, but I wouldn’t call it luxury. The furnishings were scuffed, some lights didn’t work, and a WiFi router was dangling from a wire coming out of the wall. There was a crack in the sink too, plus a very old, stale bakery item in the wardrobe. We mentioned these things at reception, but the person we spoke to didn’t seem to care or want to hear about them. We left moisturizer in the mini fridge on the first day, and it was gone afterward. Nobody had told us to leave nothing in there apart from the items already inside, so finding it cleared out was strange. There was also a dog on the property, which we think belongs to the owner. We like dogs, but this one growled and barked at us whenever we came or went and it was around.

The pool was pretty dirty. When I jumped in, all the settled muck started swirling around, so that needs sorting. We only stayed one night, and the staff were welcoming. Inside, the building is lovely, with lots of attractive features and rooms. The surrounding streets are in poor condition, though that isn’t the hotel’s fault. We enjoyed the stay, slept well, and found the beds really comfortable.

We came just for a Port tasting. The drinks were delicious, and the setting was beautiful. Our host was a great guy, funny and very knowledgeable. We had a really enjoyable evening and would definitely recommend it.

The staff were so kind and welcoming, and really went out of their way to make us feel at home. Pedro greeted us, and he was the sweetest host. There are lots of different rooms and things to do. The room itself had some details that weren’t in the best condition, but it had everything we needed, and the bed and bathroom were perfectly fine. We loved staying here and would happily come back. Would absolutely recommend it.
