Residencial Avenida

For a short stop after landing or before heading home, the location is really convenient. It's beside the bus and train station, close to the harbour and a short walk from the shops. The bus makes getting to and from the airport easy, and there's some parking near the harbour up the road. Everything was clean, the staff were helpful, and the air conditioning and heating both worked perfectly, unlike at several other places we visited. Great value and relaxing. I'd come back. It is quite basic for a longer stay, and reception is up a narrow staircase on the first floor, with no lift. There's also a lovely, friendly café opposite in the bus station.

We never got inside, so I can't review the hotel itself. I'd booked, shared our arrival time and passport details, and couldn't access email. Five hours before we were due to arrive, they tried to charge my card for a reason I don't know. The bank blocked it as a suspicious transaction, and the hotel cancelled our reservation. They had my number but didn't call or text, and left my wife and daughter waiting in the street after a long train ride from Lisbon instead of giving us an access code. We found another hotel. They kept trying to charge the card, which I believe was illegal.

Communication about self check-in was excellent, and there were lovely little touches in both the building and room. It's right across from the bus station, handy for airport trips and onward travel. The harbour is very close too, with inexpensive boat trips to the beach, as well as churches, historic areas and museums nearby.

A comfortable place right by the bus station and marina, which is handy if you're travelling by bus. The old town and the main city sights are close by. The bathroom could use an update, though it isn't too bad. Recommended!
