Steyler Fatima Hotel Congress

A good spot, and a nice conference hotel. The staff are really friendly.

The buffet was what impressed me most. Breakfast and dinner were both tasty, with lots of choice: around 8 main dishes each, plus soup, a full salad bar, plenty of desserts, and fresh fruit. At dinner there was a bottle of red or white wine on every table, a nice touch. Our spacious, modern room was well equipped and better than many 3-4 star hotels I've tried in Europe. The staff kept things organized even with all the tour groups, and everything ran smoothly. The Sanctuary of Fátima is a short, safe walk away, with souvenir shops and restaurants nearby. I was with a tour group for two nights last week at Steyler Fátima Hotel, Congress & Spa. I wasn't initially impressed by the look of the hotel, especially the low ceiling in the check-in lobby, but our tour leader recommended it highly and I can see why. I'd recommend it to tourists and travel agencies looking for a dependable stay in Fátima.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the souvenir shop beside the lobby gives hotel guests a discount. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived around 13:30, which was inconvenient. The hotel has a nostalgic 70s style, like a 4-star place from that time, and is very close to the Shrine of the Virgin. My room was spacious, but the spring mattress left my back sore the next morning. The lunch buffet was promoted as varied, though the choices were mostly rice, potatoes, and fish. I noticed another dining room with more options, which might be connected to the room price.

We spent much of our four-night stay out of the room because the renovation noise made it impossible to stay there. From 7.45am until 6pm there was loud pneumatic drilling and hammering. We couldn't hear the TV or the person we called, and our family were horrified by the noise coming through the phone. The room also had no heat because of the work. Reception said they couldn't do anything for the first two nights, though they did give us a small heater. We didn't move rooms since we were only there for four nights, but no guest should have been put in that room. The food wasn't good either, so we ate at restaurants. Unfortunately, I can't give this hotel more than one star and wouldn't recommend it.
