Hotel Casabela

The location is the hotel's biggest strength, with beautiful surroundings, easy beach access, and a lovely path that leads straight down to the beach. The hotel was clean, and the restaurant staff were attentive and friendly. There is a small pool and tennis courts, though we didn't use them, and the pool area lacked atmosphere. It's a shame the hotel has no beach bar or food service along that path, especially as other beachfront places offer it. The owners could do much more with this location. Inside, the decor is very dated and doesn't feel like a four-star standard. The pillows were poor quality, even though the bedding was clean. Our room had no minibar, kettle, water, or tea and coffee facilities, and there was no room service. When the bathroom light failed, no maintenance person was available. We were given a torch and told it couldn't be fixed until the next day. The key system also feels old-fashioned: guests are expected to leave the key whenever they go out and collect it when they return. We found it inconvenient and skipped it. The front desk staff weren't as welcoming or helpful as we'd expect from a four-star hotel. The hotel's claimed rating didn't match the service or the missing basic amenities. These shortcomings affected our stay significantly. Casabela Ferragudo has real potential, but it needs considerable investment and improvement. I'd rate our experience 2 out of 5.

We wanted a smaller, quieter hotel rather than a big resort, and Casabela had just the atmosphere we hoped for. The pool and grounds were peaceful, and we loved the spectacular view from our room and the easy access to wonderful beaches. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had to leave before breakfast on checkout day, so they packed some food for the road. We loved our stay.

The view from our balcony was lovely, and we liked the hotel's authentic Portuguese style, clean pool, and direct beach access. The service, though, felt closer to two stars than the advertised four. None of the staff seemed enthusiastic or smiled. Breakfast was repetitive and low quality, and I wondered whether some items were fresh. It ended at 10:30, but my partner and I were publicly humiliated for arriving at 10:10. On our last day, I was working at the balcony table when water from an upstairs bucket landed on my laptop and other belongings. The laptop no longer works. The hotel denied responsibility and took me upstairs to speak to the residents instead of handling the problem itself. The manager seemed completely unconcerned. The atmosphere felt like a reflection of her attitude toward guests. The hotel seems a shadow of what may once have been a glorious place, and I wouldn't pay such a high price for this treatment.

We loved our first visit to Casabela Hotel. The food was excellent, the facilities were spotless and welcoming, and the team were polite and helpful. A peaceful path through the grounds, with fruit trees and wildlife, took us to the private gated beach entrance. We only stayed two nights, but the people working there made it feel much longer.
