Suites @ Portarade

We liked it so much in this lovely fishing village, Ferragudo, that we came back for lunch three times in one week. The prices were great value: €15, €18 for two courses or €21 for three. There were lots of choices for starters and mains, plus fresh desserts that changed a little each day. For a starter, try the tender octopus salad, which was a good portion. A little vinegar and salt brought out the flavour. The freshly grilled sea bass was delicious and cooked just right, and the grilled sardines were just as fresh. Dessert was the best part for me. The staff bring over a look at the day’s desserts, and the flourless orange cake was the best orange cake I’ve had so far. My friends ordered cinnamon cake every time. Ice cream costs extra, but the vanilla with real vanilla beans was worth it. Wine drinkers get either a 375 ml bottle per person or 500 ml of sangria. Great value and a lovely atmosphere. On alternate Sundays there’s a flea market in town where you can find almost anything. It makes for a great day out. The beach is wide, with soft sand and clear water, and parking by the beach is free.

We ate here on most days of our holiday, for lunch or dinner, and were never disappointed. There’s a lot of choice, prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. The staff are friendly, and the fresh sardines were a real highlight, absolutely delicious.

For the price, the food was good and really cheap. Service was great, except they forgot to bring us the dessert menu. It was fine in the end. We paid 21 Euros each for a starter, main, dessert and coffee, good value for money.

The square is a fantastic place to sit and unwind, and the service is good. I first recommended the prawn salad because it was so nice. It was just as good the following year, and the square was a lovely spot to relax. I thought things were even better in 2022. In 2025 the salad was still tasty, top marks for consistency. This year I had it next door, and I’m sure it’s the same owner. As the picture shows, another delicious prawn salad in 2026, in a perfect location. Highly recommend.
