Casa da Eira

Beautiful.

We spent a week at Casa da Eira hoping for a quiet, restful family break to recharge. At first things went well. Sr. Armindo was friendly when we arrived, offered to lend us pool towels we'd forgotten, and brought fruit with breakfast. After that, though, it went downhill. On the second day I told him the shower gel in the house had run out. He said toiletries weren't included because it was a country house. I've stayed in country houses that did provide them, but I could accept that. What bothered me was that buying some meant driving about 20 km, and since he came by daily to bring breakfast, he never offered to pick it up and bring it the next day. We would have paid the €1.29 it cost. We paid extra for breakfast, and he asked each day what we needed. At first that seemed thoughtful, but I soon realized that if we said we didn't need an item, it simply wasn't brought or replaced with anything else. When we asked for sliced cheese, he said they didn't have any, which seemed odd since there was sliced ham and Auchan yogurt. The breakfast items were all poor quality. Some days the ham already tasted like it was going bad, and the worst part was the state of the bottle used for the juice, as the photo shows. The biggest surprise was being asked for an extra €90 when I said my parents would stay one night. The booking platform quotes we'd checked showed exactly the same price for two or four people. Most of the things in the house were old and well worn: the sofa was completely worn out, and the bath towels and kitchen utensils were heavily used and poor quality. Cleaning also fell short, with lots of cobwebs on the walls and dirt on the floor under the bed. The place and location are very nice, but the service and care for guests let it down badly. I won't return and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

We spent nine nights here, and it was one of the best places we've chosen in recent years for a proper summer rest. It's about 3 km from Dornes and 11 km from Ferreira do Zêzere, with everything needed for a relaxing holiday. There's a saltwater pool, shady garden, well-equipped air-conditioned house, a pergola with a table and chairs for eating outside, a barbecue, and a grassy area where our dogs had a great time. A real oasis in the middle of the country. We'd certainly return.

This was my second stay here, and I loved it. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and good quality. Breakfast has homemade products, and some things are made fresh. D. Clara was very kind and attentive!
