Hotel Catedral

It’s a bit dated and could use some updating, but for the price it’s good value. The location makes it easy to get around, and both breakfast and staff were decent. A solid option if you’re watching your budget.

The building is well situated, and we enjoyed our stay at Catedral hotel despite a few annoyances. Reception was very welcoming, and having free parking in Funchal was a huge help, though it’s a 15-minute walk away. Breakfast was just okay, nothing special, and we would have liked a kettle and fridge in the room. The light switches were mounted higher than our heads when we were in bed, so turning over at night sometimes lit up the whole room. We could also hear the neighbour’s bathroom drainage behind our bed whenever they used the tap at 6 am. The breakfast room had no windows and felt claustrophobic. The interior is a little outdated too.

I’d definitely stay here again. It’s very good value, with lots of restaurants and good shopping nearby and the promenade just a 3 min walk away. I was on the 7th floor and had a balcony with a great view. The room and bathroom were spacious. They’re a bit dated, but very clean and had everything I needed. Breakfast was simple, tasty, and had enough variety.

We arrived without high expectations and were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, the location was great, and the simple breakfast had everything we needed. The walls are thin, though, so it could get quite noisy. For the price, it was a really good budget stay.
