The Orchid room in August had only one window and a windowless bathroom, so there was almost no air circulation. It heated up quickly and became very humid. The bathroom was hard to use because of the heat, and a shower made it worse. A fan seems to be the only workable solution at the moment. There also aren't clotheslines for drying things. I'd recommend installing air conditioning, or at least a dehumidifier. The location is good for getting around the city, but I wouldn't recommend staying here for a longer period.

Our previous accommodation wasn't what we'd expected, but luckily we found Holiday Home! The owner let us check in outside the usual hours, and our hostess even had the room ready at 7:45am. It felt warm and smelled so welcoming. The area is charming and has a high-street feel. I'd recommend this apartment to anyone who likes having their own space and cooking. The wifi was fast, the showers were warm, the linen smelled like home, and communication was great.

We stayed in the Violet room, and from the reviews I’ve read, the Orchid room sounds much less appealing. Ours was small, but had plenty of room for sleeping and showering, and even cooking, though we didn’t cook. It was clean and had a certain charm, with good cooking equipment and first aid supplies. The location is hard to beat, about five minutes from central Funchal. This room also seems to have two large windows and air conditioning, unlike some of the others.
