Residencial Greco

A bit noisy at night because it’s right in the centre of Funchal, but I enjoyed this place. The design has a 70s feel, which gave it some character when so many hotels look alike. It’s not fancy, but my room was clean and nice, and the private bathroom had hot water and soap. The hair dryer looked odd, though I didn’t try it, so it probably worked fine. Breakfast was tasty, with good coffee, even if there wasn’t much choice. I’d recommend staying here.

The staff were polite and really helpful, and the location made it easy to explore on foot. Markets, fruit and vegetable shops, bars, restaurants, and supermarkets are nearby. We booked a double room with a balcony and faced the back of the building, so it was quiet despite being central. The room was large and clean, the bed was comfortable, and they cleaned it daily. The furniture is old and there’s no air conditioning. Breakfast was limited and the coffee could be better, but everything was fresh, and it’s complimentary. Good value for the money, and I’d strongly recommend it.

Breakfast was very basic, the cleaning wasn’t great, and the bread was actually moldy. There were bugs everywhere. The hotel and rooms are very old and worn. You do get somewhere to stay for a cheap price, but I’d try to find a better place.

The breakfast was left uncovered for too long, with nothing keeping things like cheese cold and fresh. Plates and glasses were dirty, and coffee from the container tasted like dirt. It all looked gross, and didn’t seem to meet the clean and safe standards the hotel was supposed to have. The room didn’t match the photos either. The carpets were so stained and dirty that we didn’t want to take our shoes off. The shower was rusty and wouldn’t drain, and every towel had stains. They replaced them, but the new ones still seemed gross and unclean, so we didn’t believe they had clean towels. We also found ants in the bed. Our doorknob was loose and broken, there was a crack in the door like someone had tried to force their way in, and the balcony door wouldn’t lock. When we asked reception for another room, the person there was dismissive and didn’t seem to care. Residencial Greco was nothing like what we expected.
