The house was a very disappointing stay and the advertising was misleading. It has no air conditioning or other normally functioning amenities, even the shades are broken. Carpets are stained, paint is chipped, and the kitchenware is old. Fans and other known defects have been left unfixed for months, which gives the impression the house managers have no concern for customer service. Neighbours also let their dogs bark all night. If you’re travelling as a large group, look elsewhere. Madeira is stunning, but this house didn’t do the island justice.

The photos gave us high hopes, but the property was neglected and the service unresponsive. The furniture was extremely grubby and stained, the kitchen cupboards were falling apart, and the walls were heavily marked. It desperately needs attention. We checked out immediately. After we left, it was relisted on Booking.com for significantly less than what we had paid through AirBnb.

The contact with the owners wasn’t working at all. We stayed for 10 days, and after the first night all four people sleeping in two bedrooms had allergy-like symptoms, including stuffy noses, irritated throats, and coughs, even though only one of us has an allergy. The swimming pool was dirty, and the mattresses in all four bedrooms were very hard. What I liked was the incredible view over Funchal, both day and night, and the location. The kitchen, dining area, sofas, and pool were all on the same floor and close together, which worked well for us. We played pool every day, though the foosball table was broken. The view is why I gave it 5 stars.

We felt so welcome in this wonderful house. Its location is superb, the amenities are perfect, and the views over Funchal and the surrounding area are brilliant. I can highly recommend staying here.
