The only downside for me was the pool. It was really cold, with no heating at all, though that may be common in Madeira. I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel was spotless, the staff were all super friendly, and the TUI reps were knowledgeable and had great advice. The food was always delicious, with a great selection. The pool area was very clean, and the gym, indoor pool, and massage were all great.

The hill is worth it for us: we like the views and all the facilities, and have enjoyed the yoga and hotel activities during our stays. We've been back several times because the place is clean and welcoming, with friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast and dinner have always been good, and the rooms are perfectly fine, with hot water and fresh towels. There's a cold outdoor pool, plus a heated indoor one, a small gym, an outdoor activity area and a rooftop terrace. The uphill location may be difficult if walking is a problem, but we'll be back.

The walk into the old town takes around 30 minutes, but it's a pretty, interesting route and never felt too long. The hotel sits a little higher than most, with a great ocean view, though plenty of places in Madeira have one too. The room was good, clean and comfortable, and breakfast and the welcome session were positives. A few things didn't live up to what was promised. The pool wasn't heated as the booking page said, the AC didn't work properly, and we only got the promised bottle of wine after bringing it up ourselves. It also seemed ridiculous that some breakfast tables couldn't be used during the first 30 minutes. Good hotel in general, but service fell short in places.

There's loud construction happening right behind the hotel at the moment, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. The front desk attendants were rude and actively condescending, and the workers seemed not to care about our experience at all. In the room, they provided only hand soap, with no body wash, shampoo or conditioner. Toothpaste wasn't available free or to buy, and spa robes cost extra.
