We were there from 26-30 May 2025, staying in the rooftop apartment. The terrace was enormous, almost 360°, very private, and had lovely spots to lie in the sun. From up there, you could see the church, the city and the sea. Inside, there was loads of space, two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, a working jacuzzi and stylish furniture. It’s close to the city, and on the other side there’s a lift down to a fantastic cliffside restaurant with amazing sea views. The staff were fine and breakfast was good, though the coffee tasted more like cocoa. There’s a pool, but we didn’t use it. Great hotel and location, and Madeira itself is magical. Highly recommended.

Once you get used to the hill, the location works really well, with easy access to good local restaurants. Breakfast had everything you could ask for, and the bar and restaurant were good value with great service. The hotel met all our needs. Very much recommended.

The housekeeper was friendly and polite, and did a good job keeping the room and shared spaces clean. Check-in was quick, and the woman who handled it was friendly too. Some of the other receptionists seemed moody, and I didn’t see them smile. In 2025, I wouldn’t call this a four-star hotel, though I can imagine it once was luxurious. The water wasn’t hot enough, and the room was cold with no heating. Breakfast was nice but exactly the same each day. The location was good, not too far from the centre, though our street-facing room was sometimes disturbed at night by cars and motorbikes.
