The peaceful mountain setting, with a bubbling river nearby, was perfect for relaxing and taking short walks. This is a lovely traditional slate cottage in Pena, a schist village in the Gois district of central Portugal. The owners were exceptionally kind and helpful, and the cottage combines its traditional feel with modern comforts. Everything was pristine, and the woodburner made the evenings especially cosy. There’s a bus to and from Gois, mainly for schoolchildren. A fish van and a van with fresh produce and provisions also visit the village once a week. A beautiful spot away from everyday city life.

We loved everything about this fantastic stay, from the house, which feels like a real village home, to the surrounding nature and its beauty. The hosts were incredibly kind and won our hearts. A place to visit.

The owners were so welcoming and kind, and they greeted us with lots of thoughtful touches. The house has lovely architecture and charming spaces, decorated with great taste and special details. The fireplace is wonderful, and there’s excellent central heating too. The surrounding scenery is beautiful. I recommend spending a few days in the lovely village of Pena, in the Serra da Lousã, if you love nature and schist villages. Stay at Casa da Cerejinha.
