Sotam Country House

The condition of the house and the problems I experienced were nothing like the glowing reviews I’d read before booking. I strongly suspect many of those reviews may be fake, written by bots, or from people connected to the host. The photos are misleading, too, as the house is seriously deteriorated. Older reviews mention mold, damp, and dirty beds, which matched my experience. The sudden flood of positive ratings feels very suspicious. I hope Booking investigates this listing. I booked SOTAM COUNTRY HOUSE expecting somewhere quiet and comfortable where I could rest and work. Instead, arriving alone at 10 PM in a remote area with no car, I found dirty sheets with pubic hairs and pieces of toilet paper. I moved to another room, where none of the lamps worked. Once I lay down I began itching, and found brown residue on my skin. I spent the whole night awake, scratching, exhausted and disgusted. I was afraid, and didn’t feel safe reporting it in the middle of the night. Things looked worse the next day. The bath mat was filthy, with black marks and dirt. The living room sofas were grimy, one had a huge green stain and crumbs, and there were stickers on the carpet. Moving a small table sent up so much dust that I had trouble breathing. 😖😖 I’d brought €70 worth of groceries, but everything had spoiled in the fridge. It was plugged in but wasn’t working. I lost all my food, had nothing to eat, and no way to replace it. I paid €500 and couldn’t even get a clean bed, working fridge, or safe environment. I called Booking.com support and spent almost two hours on the phone. The host denied everything, refused a refund, and offered to send someone to clean at 8 PM, after I’d already said I felt unsafe and was leaving. Even so, the host sent two people to the house, and I had to ask them to leave. I was terrified. Later, I stepped into a hole in the hallway caused by a broken floorboard, a real safety hazard. No one should have to go through what I did. Until this is addressed, I’d tell people considering SOTAM COUNTRY HOUSE not to stay. It felt unsafe and unsanitary, and the image presented online was completely fabricated.
