Casa das Portas

I was walking alone from Lisbon to Santiago and couldn't make it to the albergue nearby, so I stayed here instead. The hosts were so warm and welcoming, and the place was beautifully kept. My four-bed dorm was spacious and comfortable, everything was spotless, and there was a small option for hand-washing clothes. A lovely, cozy stop. I'd recommend it to other pilgrims and would gladly come back along the way.

A real treat, and worth the price. The palace is beautiful, the pool was cold and refreshing, and the decor was wonderful. There were several pilgrim meal options too.

The rooms are beautiful and the staff were very pleasant. Dinner for pilgrims cost 14 euros, but the portions didn't measure up. The soup was lukewarm and bland, and the spaghetti bolognese was much too salty. They also served very little bread. I'd suggest eating at local restaurants instead.

The setting was a highlight: clean, contemporary spaces surrounded by beautiful farmland. We watched a spectacular sunset with a bottle of wine from the hotel bar, which has a good local selection. There's also a generously sized pool with loungers. We stayed here while walking the Camino, on our way to Tomar and Porto, and wished we could have stayed longer. The staff were so kind and patient with our limited Portuguese, explaining everything we needed in English at check-in. The hostess really looked after us. Dinner is an option, and we'd recommend it in such a rural area. The healthy soup and salad were just what we wanted after a long day of walking. We can't wait to return.
