The house was so warm and welcoming, and the photos really don’t prepare you for how much lovelier it is in person. It had all the comforts we could want, and everything was spotless. When we arrived, Sra. Sara Azevedo and her husband greeted us kindly; the fireplace was already lit, and the bedroom and bathroom heaters were on. We kept in touch with Sra. Sara after booking so we could arrange check-in, and she was always available and helpful. We were lucky to find this place after being completely disappointed by where we’d stayed the night before. We booked less than 24 hours ahead, and this was the only house still available. Our kids loved it, and so did we. It was our first rural stay and our first time in Vindemonte, and we only wish we’d stayed longer than two nights to explore the village, meet people, and see more of what it has to offer. We’d happily book Casas Retiro de Xisto again if it’s available. Can’t wait to return. Cara Sara, thank you so much! ❤️

The house made a lovely impression as soon as we stepped inside. The ground floor has slate-covered walls, a practical kitchen, and a spacious, comfortable area for eating and relaxing. The wood stove was on, so the whole floor felt warm. Upstairs, both bedrooms are roomy, and the bathroom has a bathtub. I liked the simple, understated decor. We came to Videmonte for a few quiet days away from the city. The mountain village is well kept, with traditional stone houses. Water pours from its many fountains, and the traditional bonfire was burning in a small square near the church and café.

The houses are right in the village center on the main street, so you get a feel for local life. There’s an ATM, a church, cafés, and a small grocery shop nearby. We also found two cheese makers producing really good Serra cheese. Several trails make for long walks with spectacular scenery. The river is 2 km from the village, and the river beach is 6 km away.

A great base for doing the Pasadiso do Mondego. The house is friendly and comfortable for four, with all the essentials, and the service was helpful and pleasant. It’s right in the village center, just two minutes from a little market and a very nice café.

We went in winter and the whole house stayed warm. It’s such a cozy, comfortable place, I loved it. I’d definitely come back.
