BERGUI Guesthouse

Manuela had thoughtfully switched on the air conditioning to warm our room before our early check-in, and she gave us such a warm welcome when we arrived. Everything was beautifully clean, fresh, and well looked after. The lounge had comfortable couches and a lovely wood fire going, and there was also a nice breakfast area with a kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. (PS, I forgot to take a photo of the double bed bedroom.)

The hosts are very kind and pet friendly, and there’s a lovely outdoor area where we could enjoy morning coffee and the complimentary breakfast. It’s a beautiful rustic house just a few minutes from Guimarães. Looking forward to coming back!

We stayed for two days. The owner welcomed us warmly, and we liked the place, but there were a lot of rules and a few things felt unfair. Guests are told to pick up their dogs’ poo, while the owner’s two dogs left poo out all day. We picked that up too for both days because we like things clean. As others have said, breakfast isn’t complimentary, you have to pay for it. Even the washing machine and clothes drying cost extra. €7.5 for the washing machine felt like the most expensive in Portugal 😅😅 There was no plastic dish drying rack by the sink, and no instructions in the rules book or kitchen about drying dishes with a cloth, so we washed them and left them. The owner then reviewed us saying we hadn’t left the place tidy. Not drying the dishes doesn’t mean we left the place untidy. We also left two unused tissues on the table, and the owner was upset, saying everything should be left exactly as it was when we arrived. It feels more like a hotel with very strict rules. Be careful where you put things you’ve moved, like games or chairs in the shared space. Wi-Fi is 20mbps, so working from here could be tough. If you have a dog, there’s no key for the small gate, so you have to use the big gate for walks. It would be great if they added a key for the small gate. If you book through airbnb, I’d suggest asking the host to come check the place before you leave, so you can fix anything yourself. Otherwise, she may leave a review saying you left it untidy. I hope the owner takes this as constructive feedback and improves. About the owner’s comment: these are tiny things, and I don’t know why two unused tissues were such a problem. If they had been used tissues, I could understand calling it untidy, but guests leave and then there’s cleaning, right? That’s part of cleaning. We didn’t leave anything to clean in the kitchen or on the table. The dishes were washed, and the tissues could simply have been moved or removed. Sorry to drag this out, but we really did try to leave the place very tidy.

The host gave us a warm welcome. The room and bed were comfortable, everything was extremely clean, and it was really nice to have somewhere to park the car.
