The homemade lemonade by the pool and dinner with 1720 wines were lovely highlights. We stayed two nights in June at 'Arthur's place', a family home and vineyard where Arthur and his wife have put thoughtful touches into making guests feel welcome. Our room was in the old winery, and the thick stone walls kept it at a perfect temperature for sleeping. The spring water pool and garden sit beside the vines, with fruit trees for shade. We shared a superb meal with two other guests, then had a drink on the verandah overlooking the vines. On our second night, Arthur happily booked a table at a local restaurant, drove us there, and arranged a taxi back. We’d love to return to this hidden gem.

The rain threw off our plans for a corporate dinner and wine tasting at Quinta da Cancela, but Arthur quickly helped us put together plan B, including a photo area, tables, and musicians. The food was delicious and presented like it would be at a good restaurant. The old house has plenty of atmosphere while still being renovated and comfortable, and Arthur, the owner, gave us a tour showing how they make the wine. Thanks to him for being professional, responsive, and for the great wine and food.

I can’t wait to go back to Quinta da Cancela. The service and personal attention from Arthur were so good, and everything from the vineyard and room to the wines, breakfast, and dinner went beyond what we expected. Arthur greeted us when we arrived, showed us the cottage, and shared lots about the Quinta, vineyard, and family. I enjoyed hearing about his vision for looking after the property for the next generation. The original place dates back to 1720. Our cottage felt cozy and was furnished with care, and the garden is nicely arranged with plenty of spots to sit. Breakfast had lots of variety and was good. We also had a delicious dinner one evening and tried their homemade wine. A clear recommendation from us.

We stayed at Quinta da Cancela 1720 with friends and children for two nights, and it was a fantastic time. Artur and his family looked after us so well that we felt at home. We especially enjoyed the property tour and explanations, the winemaker’s detailed wine tasting, and a traditional dinner in the charming dining room. It’s a lovely traditional property with a beautiful vineyard, park, pool, and views over the Vinho Verde hills. I’d recommend staying in a suite, and the park also works well for a camper van.
