EMAJ Guimarães Boutique Hotel

We loved Guimaraes and would happily stay here again. The room and hotel were really comfortable, and the staff were so friendly. Breakfast had tasty choices for everyone, and the shower was the best ever.

The rooms at EMAJ were thoughtfully designed, with each item seeming to have a purpose. Our bathroom and bathtub were especially impressive, possibly the best bathroom design I've seen in a hotel. Temperature control worked properly, and the room stayed comfortable. The beds were large and comfy, the halls were quiet, and the windows kept out outside noise well. We chose EMAJ for New Year's Eve and were greeted by very kind staff who answered our questions and helped make the stay comfortable and stress-free. The amenities made for a lovely experience, and the price felt fair for this level of luxury. We hope to return at the next opportunity.

The refurbished rooms were nice, and breakfast had a good range. The location is excellent for a city break in Guimarães. Hygiene needed more attention, as the photos show, and the reception could have been better staffed, since one person was covering both the cafeteria and reception. With those improvements, I would have given five stars.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room itself was spacious. But cleaning was poor: hairs from previous guests were in every corner, and linens and towels weren't changed regularly. Breakfast choices were limited. The price was nearly double what nearby hotels charged for a similar stay.
