ibis Guimaraes Centro Hotel

The staff were extremely polite and kept checking if we needed help, and the hotel itself is fantastic. My one criticism is the bathroom: for a hotel like this, there should be a hand towel by the toilet, not just a shower towel and a floor towel.

I arrived close to midnight, and at around 2am I noticed the bed had a bad bed bug infestation. Reception wouldn’t answer the phone, so I made a video, sent it to the hotel, then went down to show them and ask to change rooms. There was dust and hair everywhere, including the bathroom. I finally got to sleep at almost 4am and had a very poor night. The workers were sympathetic, but the experience was awful.

The rooms were as expected, but the heat made this one of the worst places we’ve stayed. It was 27 degrees outside and the heating was still on. Reception told me it should reset in 5-6 hours, but when we left the next morning the room was still baking hot. We opened the windows, and because they faced a bus depot, diesel fumes soon filled the room. A truly unpleasant stay. Other guests also seemed oblivious to everyone else, banging doors and yelling at 2am.

We were told on arrival that the parking advertised was really about five spaces on the street in front of the building. On top of that, the air conditioning didn’t work.
