The garden is such a treat, with lots of beautiful little spots where you can disappear for a while or steal a first kiss. I especially liked the gardener’s house, since I prefer its simpler style, and felt lucky to walk from room to room with the staff as they told us the story of the Houses. I also spotted an old Rodin book and planned to come back and run my fingers over it later. The two buildings are each beautiful in their own way. The author is also behind Quinta da Regaleira, Sintra’s other famous fairytale place, which explains why parts of it felt familiar. The photos are lovely, but being there is even more peaceful, and the breakfast is just as thoughtful, served by attentive staff with carefully chosen classical music playing, no cliché pieces, as deep orange and red leaves fell outside. Some places are nice to visit, but I could actually live here, especially in the gardener’s house.

We felt right at home at The Grove Houses. It was a warm, clean, comfortable place, and the staff were attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed staying there and would happily recommend The Grove Houses to anyone visiting Guimarães.

Biatres was especially lovely and always ready to help. When she heard we were learning Portuguese, she spoke to us in the language, which made our mornings extra special. Sara was just as kind and attentive, remembering all our breakfast preferences and making sure whatever we mentioned was ready the next morning. We stayed four wonderful nights at The Grove Houses in Guimarães. The peaceful, beautiful setting felt like home, but it was the staff’s warmth, smiles, and genuine care that made the visit so memorable. We’re grateful and will remember it for a long time. Highly recommended!

Make time for a walk through the beautiful gardens. There are two lovely houses with very different styles, one modern in a stone building and the other dating from the turn of the 20th century. Maria and Bea gave great service, and everything was super clean with nice toiletries. Breakfast was generous in both quality and quantity. Highly recommend this place!
