Montebelo Vista Alegre Ílhavo Hotel

We were passing through Aveiro and thought a night at a five-star hotel would be a treat, but the stay fell well short. In the morning, we were upset as we checked out. The hotel offered a free night, but since we were leaving Aveiro and had no plan to stay longer, they refunded the whole stay instead. We appreciated the refund, though we'd hoped for a much better experience. We won't return; neither the town nor the accommodation satisfied us. The trouble started in our deluxe suite, where renovation work on the same floor caused drilling noises and vibrations. We were heading out, so we sighed and put up with it. Later, people checked into the room next door around half past midnight. The walls were thin, and they carried on partying in their room and on the balcony, making it impossible to sleep. We complained three times, including by phone to reception, and went down in person. Reception was quite rude and didn't try to solve the problem. The hotel finally helped us change rooms. Breakfast: 3/5. Rooms: 3/5. Staff: 3/5. Pool area: 2/5.

The restaurant food was good, and the room was clean with a really nice feel to it. But the bedding was the standout for me. I've never felt duvet covers or sheets like those, and I still dream about them. I looked up the brand and found it's a Portuguese cotton brand. My Lord, that material was something else. The bed itself was stunning.

Guests get free entry to Vista Alegre Museum, which is just behind the hotel. Definitely worth a visit.

The rooms are the real highlight: modern, spacious, and beautifully decorated. The view over the Ria is lovely, and everything feels quiet and peaceful. The hotel has indoor and outdoor pools, distinctive decor, and its own style. Breakfast is included and the buffet is very good. Service was good, though not exceptional. I had no problems, but nobody went the extra mile. This is easily the best hotel in the Aveiro area, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're staying nearby.
