The staff were really nice and I still had a good time, though the place didn’t have much of an atmosphere. There’s barely room for suitcases, and the lockers are tiny. The kitchen is too cramped to cook properly, the common areas shut at midnight, and the three-level bunks have bars that really hurt your feet. It was still okay, but this was my least favorite hostel in Portugal. I’d pick another one.

The nightly family dinner is cheap, and they put on something every day. It’s easy to unwind and meet people because everyone treats the place like a shared home. The staff are welcoming, good for a bit of banter, and make sure guests have what they need. They also seem very at home themselves, including the occasional sofa nap. If you’d rather have a bigger hostel with a hotel feel, this probably won’t suit you. I loved the friendly, homely atmosphere, and leaving the family I’d found here in old town was genuinely sad.

The workers were awesome, and the place was clean, comfortable, and welcoming. There are three bathrooms with showers, so the wait never gets too long. The common rooms are great for meeting other travelers, and the female dorm I stayed in was cute and clean. They clean and disinfect once a day, and people keep things pretty tidy. It’s in a hotspot with lots of similar hostels nearby, so the bars are always fun. Great vibes from the 20-somethings there!

It opened in June 2017, and the roomy bedrooms make sharing a space much easier when you're traveling on a low budget. The hostel is right in the heart of the city, handy for activities during the day and at night. The staff are kind, pleasant, and always ready to help. One of the best parts of my trip to portugal, and I’ll definitely come back.

Old Town Hostel was cozy and in a good location. I came with a couple of friends, but I’d recommend it to solo travelers too since the friendly atmosphere makes it easy to meet people. The staff were lovely and super cool with us. Special shout-out to Travis, who helped me out even when he wasn’t on duty and made sure I had a memorable time in Lagos. I was completely satisfied with my stay.
