Lagosmar Hotel

The front desk team were cheerful and helpful, answering my questions about restaurants and attractions nearby. I also liked the rooftop terrace. The hotel is right among the main tourist spots, shops, and amenities, so the location is its strongest point. The building feels old and dated, especially the furniture, bathroom, and carpets, though the convenience worked for a short stay. I was disappointed by what happened after checkout. My jacket was missing, and the extender zippers on both my backpack and luggage had been opened, even though I never use those extra sections. Staff had come into the room to clean, which hadn’t happened at my previous Airbnb stays. One time the bed had been made, but some pillows and the decorative bottom sheet were left off to the side, like the cleaning was rushed. I didn’t think much of it then, but later it seemed more significant once I noticed my jacket was gone. I’d advise guests to lock up their belongings when they leave. The desk staff were great, but this experience left me disappointed.

The location is great, but the room had a musty smell on arrival. It turned out there was mold in two separate spots in the bathroom. The rooms weren’t very clean, and the hotel is old and needs renovation. There were also few to no amenities, so I’d recommend staying somewhere else.

The central location was the only good thing about this hotel. We paid for two nights, but after the first one we knew we couldn’t stay and left early. Nobody even asked why we were checking out. There’s no refund policy. The only service was a lobby water dispenser, and they stopped refilling it after a certain hour. There was also a coffee machine, but only the first cup was free; extra cups cost money. From the moment we walked in, there was an overpowering damp smell. Although I’d given my room preferences when booking, we were told the standard rooms were non-smoking and assigned a ground-floor room. We spent the night in horrible damp conditions and couldn’t sleep at all. A supposedly clean towel had long black strands of a woman’s hair on it. The room felt extremely stuffy, and the old AC was loud when running. I’ve stayed in many hotels around the world, and paying this price for no service and not even basic cleanliness is completely unacceptable.

The staff were the reason our stay became so memorable. After a bus left us stranded on the way to Lagos, we lost our baggage and passports. The team did far more than they had to: David and especially Hannani were incredible. Hannani spent hours calling customer service for us and speaking Portuguese on our behalf, which made a stressful mess much easier to manage. We stayed three nights at Lagosmar Hotel and had a fantastic time. The rooms were spotless, had safes, and were thoroughly cleaned each day. The toilets are a little dated, as some older reviews said, but that didn’t spoil things. The rooftop patio is lovely for a glass of wine and a view of the water. You’re right in the old town, close to everything. I highly recommend it for a stay in Lagos.
