The 17 Hostel

The rooftop was nice, but there wasn’t a lounge or common area. The bathrooms had no hand basin or mirror, and the drains in both the bathroom and kitchen seemed blocked, with water going down slowly. I stayed Friday to Monday, and the nearby pubs played loud music until midnight, so this place is only okay if you don’t plan to sleep before then. It might be quieter during the week. The location would be good without the noise. There were mostly men staying when I was there.

The location is amazing, close to the bars and restaurants and very near the beach. I had a great stay at the 17 hostel, and definitely recommend it for a few days. The rooms are a good size and cleaned daily, as are the bathrooms. Tommy the owner was great and really helpful. The rooftop is small but nice, with couches and tables, and there’s a bar where you can buy beer. I gave it four stars because the room lockers were too small for a suitcase or backpack, only big enough for personal things, a small bag, or a coat. It was low season, but reception was empty all the time, so you had to call Tommy for help. There’s also a bar downstairs, and its music can get too loud in the evening or at night, which could be annoying if you need quiet to sleep.

People were friendly, but the hostel wasn’t very clean. The wifi kept cutting out, and unfortunately I could easily hear the loud music outside my room.

Tommy gave us a warm, helpful welcome, and the place was cleaned every day. It’s close to both the centre and the beach, with a couple of bars nearby, and felt like good value. Even on the weekend, the women’s dorm stayed quiet, though I was there in March and we kept the window shut. The kitchen feels a little cramped for the number of guests. I also wished there’d been coffee, even if it was donation based, and paper towels in the bathrooms.
