The balcony gets nice sun during the day, which is about the only upside I found. The restaurant is perfect, but the room itself isn't comfortable. At 76 euros a night, having a sewer blockage is really frustrating. There's no ventilation, not even in the toilet, so the room can get very humid after a shower. There aren't many options on Pico Island, especially in summer.

The crew at espaco thalassa were competent and respectful for the whale watching. The place itself was clean and beautiful, with a private bathroom and a kitchen available. Breakfast was the best we had in acores. It does cost a bit, 70 euros per night, but that was okay.

The sea views are fantastic, and the staff even let us switch to one of their other properties, which was kind of them. Still, it was cold in May because there's no heating. Maybe these rooms work well in summer, though parking is really tight on a steep, bendy road, and breakfast is a ten-minute walk away.

The outdoor kitchen is nice and easy to get to. The rest was a letdown: dirty sheets and towels, plus earwigs, ants, and centipedes in the room. Cleaning was extremely poor. There was no air conditioning, and the street was noisy. Breakfast was very minimal, and the staff there were unfriendly all week. I had to ask for everything myself, and they weren't friendly when dealing with me.
