Casas da Penha

We loved this place and would definitely come back. The house is beautifully simple, with ancient rock built into the ground floor, first floor and bathroom, and the view over Penamacor is stunning. A big thank you to Joana, who brought breakfast each day right on time so we had everything we needed. She was incredibly kind and dedicated.

The Casas da Penha have been restored really well, and the setting is superb. The views are striking both in daylight and after dark, just like the photos show. Joana welcomed us so warmly and surprised us with breakfast every morning, which we hadn't expected. We hope to return as soon as we can.

The only thing I'd change is the bathroom privacy. Otherwise, it's a very pleasant, spotless house, and the welcome is so friendly. Breakfast comes in a lovely basket with jam, regional cheese and fruit. I'd recommend it to anyone exploring the schist villages.

The buildings have been nicely restored, but arriving from a trip and finding no shower gel or shampoo was an unpleasant surprise when all I wanted was a shower. In our room, the bathroom was separated by glass, so there wasn't much privacy, and it flooded easily.
