Delfim Douro Hotel

A lovely hotel setup, with service and a perfect view over the D'Ouro River.

The view over the Douro river is great, and the hotel is handy for several wineries. Breakfast was very good too. Alexandra on the staff was especially helpful, booking our tour and sharing good ideas for things to do nearby. The bathroom felt short on privacy because it has a glass wall facing the room. I'd skip dinner at the restaurant, though, since it costs a lot for what you get.

The location worked really well for us, close to the vineyards, towns and attractions we wanted to see. Lamego is a five-minute drive along pretty winding mountain roads. The views from the rooms are beautiful, but the beds were uncomfortable, the bedding was poor and the pillows were dreadful. Rooms are just adequate, and the open showers and bathrooms without doors made them a 2/5 for us. Staff were very pleasant when we asked for something, and reception was friendly, but service didn't feel proactive. The dining was below par, and the staff seemed inexperienced, though they could improve with better management and more thoughtful oversight. They were nice people, just not a wow experience. We stayed three nights during the second part of our five-stop European honeymoon. We enjoyed our time, but didn't love the place, and at the price I see it as a 2/5 hotel. If you're after somewhere special, spend a bit more and go to the 6 senses, or look elsewhere.

We held a company event here. It's a fantastic spot for relaxing, with delicious food and super friendly staff.
