Quinta de Recião

We had a wonderful week, and Francisca and Henrique helped make it that way. They were charming, and the food they prepared for our special occasion was a real treat. The mill was spotless, very comfortable, and well equipped with quality gear. It’s also a great spot for walking, especially if you have a dog. For the price, I don’t think you could find a better house.

The hosts were amazing, and the setting was stunning. It felt like a genuine little slice of portugal.

We loved falling asleep to the Varosa river outside the 500 year-old stone mill house. The property sits beside the Camino Dos Monges, so we could hike parts of the route and take a short walk upriver to the swimming holes. We ordered dinner, and it arrived with a bottle made from grapes grown in the vineyard behind the mill. The meals were fabulous and reasonably priced. Definitely worth ordering.

The setting is lovely and feels like a hidden gem, though it’s quite remote. There’s a river swimming spot not far away, but you’ll be driving for everything else. There’s nothing close by and no walking trails, and the winding roads can feel dangerous if you’re staying a while. Inside, it’s pretty basic: a small TV, two single beds instead of a double, which seemed odd since I’d guess most guests are couples, and a very average bathroom. There’s also more that could be done with the outdoor area. The crushed rock at the back could be a deck, which would be much easier to walk on.
