Terrace Lisbon Hostel

The bathroom door didn’t have a proper lock, so that could be fixed. Otherwise, a nice hotel with decent rooms and a fully equipped kitchen. It’s also close to bus and tram stops in the Belem area.

It’s in a good, safe neighborhood, but I wouldn’t stay again. There was barely anyone around to help most of the time, and the one man we saw briefly a few times couldn’t speak English. Full ashtrays were left lying around, the patio was run down, and the small kitchens and bathrooms weren’t great. The managers should replace the dishcloths and deal with water on the bathroom floors. Getting here from the airport takes the metro and then the 728 bus. If you decide to stay, good luck.

Patricia was great, really communicative and understanding, and the location makes it easy to walk to several sights, especially St Jerome Monastery. The hostel has an impressive staircase at the entrance. The terrace looked nice, but as a non-smoker I didn’t use it. My private room was a bit cramped, and the bunk bed was so low I kept bumping my head, even though I’m only 5'3. The building feels very old and the layout doesn’t work well. It seems like the hostel needs a major renovation.

The location was great and the service was good, but there was black mold in several places around the building. We found moisture and mold on our room ceiling, and the bathroom fan was too small. There was mold in the showers and on the sink top too, as the pictures show. It seems like it could be cleaned up and fixed easily, but nobody appears to notice it. Being a cheap hostel shouldn’t excuse health concerns.
