Breakfast was okay, the mattress was good, and the staff were friendly. Sleep was the problem: sounds travel easily through this very old house, from footsteps and conversation to hair dryers and snoring. We woke early when someone used a hair dryer and snored, and didn't sleep well. The shower door wouldn't shut properly, and the bedroom handle was coming off.

The hotel is packed with antiques and clocks, which makes it really interesting. Breakfast was great and the service and facilities were fantastic. It's also conveniently placed for visiting Luso and Mata National do Bucaco. The font and waterfall were probably the best we've ever seen.

It feels almost like a museum, with plenty of history and beautiful details. The hotel is rustic, but the conditions are great and everything was very clean. The staff were kind and helpful. Worth setting aside time to explore the Bussaco forest.

The forest was incredible, with lots of stairs and steep sections. I drove 8 minutes to buccau national Forest, though it's a 30-minute walk. There's also a small park by the entrance to a major hiking trail. I visited in September, when many of the shopping booths in the nice park market were closed. The hotel was very clean, breakfast was good and free, and the staff helped arrange dinner reservations and taxis. When they found out the place I liked was closed for the week, they offered alternatives. Great hotel and staff.

The room felt comfortable and lively, and breakfast was honestly great, with a good range of choices. This is a real gem of a hotel, a beautiful building with a rich family history. It's full of clocks, and has kept its own style without giving in to the bland beige geometry you see in contemporary decor. The staff were welcoming and made us feel at home.
