Next door, the old factory has been turned into a hotel, with lovely touches that celebrate the area’s wool history. I especially liked the lamps with wool shades. The accommodation itself has a rich past too: it was once the home of the family behind Ecola, the wool company. Our room was clean, and breakfast was delicious.

Breakfast was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The hotel has the feel of a lodge, with an interesting history as the former family home of the original Ecola family. It also has beautiful views over Manteigas and the valley. A phenomenal place to stay in the area.

We arrived to find that Serra da Estrela park had suffered a major fire and much of it was damaged and unsuitable for visiting. The tourist information office confirmed this, so we told the hotel we wouldn’t be staying all the nights we’d booked because there wasn’t much to do there. They refused to refund us despite the unusual circumstances, and we had to pay for four nights we didn’t stay. The reception person was rude and unkind, and the toilet in our room didn’t work. The worst hospitality I’ve ever experienced. Don’t stay there!

A quiet, cozy spot in nature, just right for relaxing. The breakfast was tasty, and you can even have it outside with a view. There’s AC for both winter and summer, too! 😄

The valley view over Manteigas was wonderful. Our host was very friendly, and the room was cozy, spotless, and came with a delicious breakfast.
