Casa das Penhas Douradas

The staff made this trip feel incredibly special. Eva at the front desk and Luis in the restaurant were fantastic, and the meal we had to celebrate our engagement was amazing. We’d come for a bike event, and the food, service and understated luxury all made the stay unforgettable. The team made us feel like the only guests there, even though we knew others were around. This doesn’t feel like a typical resort, and when we return to the region, this is the only place we’ll stay.

We loved the modern design, warm pool and delicious meals, and the staff were clearly well trained. The setting is just as memorable, with wide views, quiet nights under the stars and hikes in the stunning national park. One of my favorite hotels in Portugal. We’re grateful for the stay.

We spent three nights here and had a great time. The staff were so welcoming and attentive, and the food was delicious with plenty of vegetarian choices. I loved the 70s design and relaxing massages, and the hiking guide knew so much about the local plants and wildlife. The lounge rooms with fireplaces were lovely places to read or have a drink. There are activities for rainy days as well as good weather.

The mountain setting was beautiful, and we had fun exploring among the clouds and huge boulders on a walk. We also really enjoyed both lunch and dinner here. The vegetable lasagna and roasted chicken with vegetables were great, as were the salad, spinach and mushroom soup, vegetable soup and apple crumble. Wonderful chef. We’d definitely recommend it.
